Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a trader reported from the market of Tur that a group of staff members of the locality entered the market, accompanied by a number of government forces.

“They ordered each trader to pay a fee of SDG50 ($8.50),”he said. “When we asked then for the reason, and told them that we paid the fees already for our permits, they did not reply. They just kept insisting on the 50 pounds.”

The trader said that when a number of his colleagues refused to pay, the government forces detained them, and took them to the military base of Tur. “Mohamed Yagoub, Ahmed Osman, El Faki Abdellateef, El Rabee Adam Ali, Ismail Suleiman Musa, and Osman Adam were among them.”

He added that their families fear they may be subjected to ill-treatment and torture.
