Armed gangs wreak havoc in North Darfur capital

Residents of El Fasher complain about attacks by armed gangs in various parts of the city.
“Assaults and armed robberies are rife,” a listener told Radio Dabanga from El Fasher. “We are afraid to leave our homes, fearing to be hurt or killed in one of these attacks.”
He said that the most recent incidents occurred on Tuesday. “A group of gunmen stole a vehicle belonging to the Darfur Regional Authority’s Ministry of Youth and Sports at the town’s eastern gate.
“Government forces chased the thieves, who abandoned the vehicle not far from the city,” he said.
He added that later that day, an employee of the Blue Nile Bank was shot in an attempt to steal his vehicle. “He survived the attack, and was even able to file an official complaint.”
