Tracking devices to deter hijacks in North Darfur

The North Darfur State government will cooperate with a company specialised in the installation of tracking devices for vehicles, in a bid to reduce the increasing number of hijacks. North Darfur State Governor Osman Yousif Kibir announced that the state government and the state’s Security Committee last week signed an agreement with a company specialised in the installation of tracking devices for vehicles, the Sudan News Agency (Suna) reported on Tuesday. The company will install tracking devices in 5,000 vehicles, Kibir said. The measure is part of a plan prepared by the state’s Security Committee to combat the rampant insecurity in the region. On 15 July, the South Darfur State government issued a number of emergency measures, in an attempt to reduce the criminality in the capital. The measures include the prohibition of wearing masks, firing guns, and a ban on motorcycles. A special Emergency Court was established in the capital of Nyala to speedily try offenders of the new measures.
