Three Darfur hay collectors raped

Three young women, aged 23, 18, and 17, were raped by seven militiamen while they were collecting hay in North Darfur yesterday.

A relative of the victims told Radio Dabanga that the women were collecting hay in the Dawa area near Tabit, when the militiamen intercepted them.

“The gunmen repeatedly raped them and beat them severely. The women were taken to Tabit health centre for treatment after we filed a complaint at the army garrison in Tabit.”

Elsewhere in the Tabit area, militiamen stole 250 sheep and goats, and 71 donkeys on Saturday.

Listeners told Radio Dabanga that about 14 militia members riding camels stormed livestock corrals in the eastern and northern district of Tabit.

They added that the militiamen then opened dense fire in the air and left.

In a separate incident near Tabit on Sunday afternoon, five militiamen barred the way of 12 displaced people who went out to collect straw with their cart. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the militiamen beat the people with sticks and whips, and burned their cart.
