Threat to torch South Darfur village, two die in firefight

Militiamen threatened to set the village of Doura in South Darfur on fire on Sunday, if the villagers do not pay compensation for two cows. On the same day, two people were killed in the area of Jimeiza, south of Kass. Speaking to Radio Dabanga from Doura, 2km south of Kass, a witness reported that militiamen on camels and horses, and others on motorcycles stormed Doura village on Sunday, demanding compensation for two cows they claimed died at the farmland of one of the villagers. They said that they will set Doura on fire, if the villagers do not pay them SDG9,000 ($1,600) within two weeks. One of the rescue team members told Radio Dabanga that a lorry belonging to the Abrasi company was stolen in the area of Um Labasa. They formed a team, and tracked the lorry until Jimeiza. There they clashed with the thieves and a firefight erupted, during which one robber and one team member were killed, and people from both sides sustained injuries.
