Tension as police shoot militiaman in South Kordofan

There is growing tension between security forces in Abu Kershola in South Kordofan, after a policeman shot a paramilitary of the Popular Defence Forces (PDF) on Sunday.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of Abu Kershola explained that policemen shot a suspect in the town on Sunday.
“The man, who turned out to be a PDF member, was seriously wounded. He was immediately taken to a hospital in El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan.”
The source said that the spread of government-backed militiamen in Abu Kershola after the incident sparked panic among the population. “Many fled their homes. The town market has been closed too. On Wednesday, an armed group surrounded Abu Kershola police station.”
He warned that the situation may explode if the authorities do not intervene to contain the tension.
