The Press and Publications Court in Khartoum has convicted, Dr Lubaba Fadul of the leadership of the Popular Congress Party (PCP) on charges of supporting the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).

The Court ruled that Fadul’s support for the JEM is borne out “by glorifying Dr Khalil Ibrahim* after his death in a government air raid through publishing an interview in Alwan newspaper”. The complaint that led to Fadul’s trial and conviction was made by the Sudanese security apparatus.

According to the decision, the court imposed a fine of SDG5,000 ($800) on Fadul and SDG10,000 ($1,600) to be paid by Alwan Newspaper, as well as a fine of SDG5,000 ($800) to be paid by Wasla Abbas who ran the interview in the newspaper.
