Sudanese migrants sentenced for crossing into Egypt

Judicial sources said that an Egyptian military court on Thursday sentenced 55 Sudanese migrants to imprisonment for one year and a fine of $150 each for a stay of execution of the sentence and deportation to their country.

The source said that the court convicted them of entering the country illegally. An Egyptian truck driver was also convicted for a year in jail for trying to transport the migrants into the Sinai Peninsula in an attempt to smuggle them across the border into Israel.

The Sudanese migrants were 40 men between the ages of 20 and 30 years old, nine women aged between 14 and 25 years, and six children between 4 and 12 years.
