Sudanese Congress Party head released

(UPDATED) The president of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), Ibrahim El Sheikh, was released on Monday evening. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Dr Fateh El Sayed, vice-president of the SCP reported that the attorney general of El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan, had withdrawn the case against Ibrahim El Sheikh. “The decision to withdraw the case came after the defence team had submitted documents concerning the nature of the accusations to the court. The judge would consider them, before the scheduled court session of 24 September would commence.” El Sayed added that the prosecutor had withdrawn the file itself before. “Despite the withdrawal of the case now, we have not received any news from the Ministry of Justice about the release of our SCP president.” On Wednesday, the  chairman of the AU Panel (AUHIP) on Sudan, told the press in Khartoum that President Omar Al Bashir had decided to order the release of El Sheikh.
