SPLM calls for international intervention

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (south division) confirmed on Wednesday that the Sudanese Air Force had continued its campaign of aerial shelling in Southern Kordofan.

In the aftermath of the attacks that targeted civilians in Nuba areas, the SPLM (south division) called on the international community to intervene immediately.

Qamar Dahlman, spokesperson of the SPLM (south division) president in South Kordofan told Radio Dabanga, that the Sudanese air force carried out 14 air attacks on Tuesday in Abram, Alahemer and Aslara areas in east of the state’s capital Kadugli.

Dahlman accused the governor of South Kordofan, Ahmad Harun of ordering these attacks. The spokesperson also claimed to have proof that Harun gave instructions to the air force command for continuous air strikes on areas inhabited by ethnic Nuba.

Dahlman revealed that the SPLM (South division) obtained a military manual with the coordinates of the areas that have been under air force attack, these past few days. From this manual, he added, it is clear that the governor plans to target all Nuban areas. This includes areas without Sudan People’s Liberation Army’s (SPLA’s) presence thus indicating a clear intention to target civilians.

In April 2007, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an international arrest warrant against governor Ahmad Harun for committing war crimes in Darfur. He has been accused of organising and aiding militants in Darfur by providing them with logistical support. Before Harun became the governor of South Kordofan, he managed the porfolio of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs from 2006 until 2008.
