A judge found him not guilty of charges that include terrorism, but he was re-arrested on Monday. The USA urges Sudan to free Radwan Daoud, who was born in West Darfur, Sudan. During his trial, Daoud was ordered by Judge Abbas Khalifah to pay 500 Sudanese pounds for planning to burn tires during a protest. His lawyer said he was then released but that security agents re-arrested Daoud as he was about to leave. In a statement the US State Department said “[They] have urged the Government of Sudan to honor the decision by the judge, which was rooted in Sudanese criminal law as well as established precedent, in his decision to release Daoud.” Sudanese activists claim that more than 1.000 people were arrested so far for joining these kinds of protests. The numbers cannot be verified.
