On Monday morning, a force of the National Security and Intelligence Service (NISS) held political activist Akram Ahmed from in front of his house in Wad Nubawi in Omdurman, without any explanation.

Yesterday, friends of the detainee told Radio Dabanga from Khartoum that Ahmed was taken to an unknown destination but released late on Monday evening with the demand to return to report to the NISS offices on Tuesday morning.

As reported by Radio Dabanga last week, the co-deputy head of the opposition National Umma Party (NUP) was detained in Khartoum while hanging posters announcing the imminent return to Sudan of NUP Chairman El Sadig El Mahdi.
