Sudan transfers JEM prisoners to death row: Rebels

A spokesman of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) announced that the Sudanese government has transferred seven of the faction’s prisoners from regular cells in Shala prison in El Fasher to execution cells “in preparation for their execution” this week. The JEM members were arrested in South Darfur in 2010 for their involvement in an attack on a trade convoy that left 59 members of the Central Reserve Forces (known as Abu Tira) dead. In March this year the Special Criminal Court for Darfur Crimes sentenced the seven JEM members to death. Spokesman Jibril Adam Bilal condemned the government’s actions and warned via Radio Dabanga that this is a “miscalculated step” by the Khartoum regime. He called upon human rights organisations to verify the conditions of the prisoners and stop the “reprisal executions”. The names of the JEM prisoners sentenced to death are: Ibrahim Sherif Yusuf, Adam Toam Adam, Hassan Ishaaq Abdullah Mohamadain, Siddiq Abbaker Yahiya, Mohamed Adam Hasaballa, Abdel Raziq Daoud Abdel Seed Nimir, and Abu Al Gasim Abdullah Abu Bakr.
