The fishermen of Sudan’s Red Sea State have reported the death of large quantities of fish in the Red Sea, south of Suakin area and south of Tokar.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, local fisherman Munib blames the fish deaths on Egyptian ‘bulldozer’ fishing operations and the use of internationally outlawed blast fishing.

Munib said that the Minister of Agriculture of the state has refused to call a halt to these practices and discontinue the permit, despite acknowledging a mistake by the ministry for not providing a tender for the contract.
