Sudan’s Communist Party condemns NCP accusations

The Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) strongly condemned the allegations by a National Congress Party (NCP) official that Faroug Abu Eisa, head of the National Consensus Forces, and Dr Amin Mekki Madani, chairman of the Civil Society Initiative, were detained because they were plotting to sabotage the upcoming national elections.

On Sunday, the chairman of the ruling NCP’s Political Sector, Mustafa Osman Ismail, told the press in Khartoum that Abu Eisa and Madani were involved in a plot aimed at sabotaging the elections, scheduled to start on 13 April.

The SCP called the accusations “a blatant lie”. Yousef Hussein, the spokesman for the party said that the ruling NCP is attempting to mislead the public opinion in Sudan.

“The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) detained both opposition leaders on 6 December last year, a day after their return from Addis Ababa where they signed the Sudan Appeal with the Sudan Revolutionary Front and the Umma Party.

“Abu Eisa and Dr Madani are accused of attempting to overthrow the regime by force, and not of planning to sabotage the elections. These allegations confirm to the Sudanese and the world that the NCP consists of liars and hypocrites,” he stressed.

Yesterday, the head of the defence team, Omar Abdelaati, told Dabanga that he intends to file a complaint against the NCP official.
