The head of the fund for Darfur Reconstruction, Dr. Mohamed Al Tayeb Al Tijani, disclosed that the Sudanese government received $760 million on behalf of Darfur from donors and institutions in Islamic and Arabic countries during the past two years, and did not disburse any of it.The government placed the donations in the Omdurman National Bank in the name of the ‘Committee for the Support Darfur’. He explained that he does not know who runs this account nor whether it has supported any projects. Al Tijani called on the Darfuri caucus in the National Legislature to work with the Fund to search for donations received by the government on behalf of Darfur, which should be given to projects awaiting funding.

Dr. Al Tjani denied receipt of any sums of money earmarked for the Fund by the Sudanese government in the past two years. The government had received $250 million from donors, $500 million from the Organization of the Islamic Conference, and $10 million from the Kenana Forum. Dr. Tijani told this to Radio Dabanga in Khartoum last week.
