Sudan committed to dialogue with SPLM-N: Al Bashir
Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir received today (Tuesday) the chairman of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) on Sudan, Thabo Mbeki, in the presence of his advisor and chairman of the government delegation for the negotiations with the SPLM-N, Dr Ibrahim Ghandour.In a press conference after the meeting, Dr Ghandour said that Mbeki called for speeding up the peace process in Addis Ababa. He told Al Bashir that participation in the proposed national dialogue necessitates the stoppage of war and an agreement on a comprehensive cease-fire. When these issues are solved, the SPLM-N will be able to an effective political party at the Sudanese political arena, the AUHIP chairman stated during the meeting with the Sudanese president.Al Bashir affirmed to Mbeki Sudan’s commitment to realise peace and stability in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile States, in accordance with the Security Council Resolution 2046.According to the Sudanese president, his government is committed to the delivery of humanitarian aid to the two war-torn states, in compliance with the tripartite agreement which was signed by the government, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), the UN, and the Arab League. Dr Ghandour announced that the government has received an invitation from Thabo Mbeki to attend the negotiations with SPLM-N which will be resumed on Thursday, 27 February, in Addis Ababa.
