Students from rival parties riot in Nyala

The police force of South Darfur has reportedly contained a riot that broke out at the University of Nyala between students who support rival parties, leaving at least one injured, on Thursday, 22 November, Radio Dabanga has learned. Major General Taha Jalaladin, head of the state’s police force, told reporters that students supporting the rebel movements SPLM-N and SLM-MM clashed with students supporting the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).    Sources explained that students hit each other and used batons during the riot, injuring at least one, before security forces intervened. The general recounted that the incident happened because of the establishment of a ‘discussion corner’ at the university. Apparently, he continued, NCP pupils refused to debate with the others, what led to the eruption of clashes. On another note, Jalaladin mentioned to reporters about another incident involving the injury of a number of students.He said that a vehicle belonging to a member of the student union from the University of Nyala recently rolled over at the University Avenue.
