Student protest dispersed with violence: tens in hospital and eight arrested

Security forces and the police of El Geneina attacked students of the University of Zalingei on Sunday. The students gathered to protest against the poor living conditions and lack of services provided by the university. A student told Radio Dabanga he saw security forces arriving in 15 vehicles and also police forces on the back of six other vehicles. Students were beaten up and kicked with rifles and batons. The student saw security forces and police using sharp ammunition and tear gas to disperse the demonstration. Tens of students were injured and transferred to the hospital in El Geneina. Another eyewitness told Radio Dabanga more than eight female students and tens of male students were arrested and taken to the El Geneina security headquarters.
