Strike in West Kordofan, strike threat in South Darfur

Members of the Labour Union branch in En Nahud locality, West Kordofan, embarked on a strike on Monday, in protest against the non-payment of their November salaries. The Union has sent an open letter to the Commissioner of the locality, demanding the salaries’ payment, and announcing the strike. “If the authorities will disburse the salaries on Tuesday, as they stated in response to the letter, we will resume our work immediately,” Bakri El Khalifa, a basic school teacher told Radio Dabanga. The state employees in South Darfur have not been paid their November salaries too. One of them explained to Radio Dabanga from the state capital Nyala that it is not the first time that the salaries are delayed. “The South Darfur authorities do not take their and our work seriously. We may embark on a strike soon,” he said. File photo by Hamid Abdulsalam/Unamid
