Straw collectors attacked by militiamen in West Darfur

Four displaced were injured, two of them seriously, in an attack by militiamen in Kereinik locality, West Darfur. A relative of one of the victims told Radio Dabanga that on Saturday four “government-backed militiamen” attacked a group of people collecting straw outside the Kereinik camp for the displaced. The assailants beat them with whips and rifle butts. Upon their shouting, other straw collectors rushed to the place to help. When they approached the scene, the gunmen opened fire on them, injuring four, two of them seriously. The wounded, Mohamed Ismail Sayed, a basic school teacher, Ajab Khamis Adam Ibrahim, Hubeldin Abdallah, and Abdallah Mohamed Matar were transferred to a hospital in El Geneina for treatment The relative added that the incident was reported to the police, who transported the wounded to the hospital, but did not prosecute the perpetrators.
