‘SPLM-N rebels repel attack in South Kordofan’

Combatants of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) reportedly repelled an offensive by Sudanese government troops on areas under their control near El Firshay, north of Delling, in South Kordofan on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday morning, SPLM-N military spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi reported that the rebels, “under direct command of Lt. Col Aboud Ismail El Karib and overall command of Brig. Gen. Daoud Ashaya El Foul”, halted a large-scale attack on rebel-held areas near the El Firshay garrison.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, SPLM-N military spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi reported that the rebels, “under direct command of Lt. Col Aboud Ismail El Karib and overall command of Brig. Gen. Daoud Ashaya El Foul”, halted a large-scale attack on rebel-held areas near the El Firshay garrison.

“The SPLM-N managed to repel and disperse the invading forces on the morning of 18 March 2016, and to kill 13 government troops,” the statement reads. “Many others were wounded.”

Three rebel fighters were killed and three others wounded. They further destroyed one Land Cruiser and seized “one RPG-7 missile launcher in good condition”.

On Saturday, Lodi reported that the SPLM-N dispersed a number of military reconnaissance troops northwest of Delling in northern South Kordofan.

Under command of the same rebel leaders, the rebel fighters killed three soldiers, and seized “one 60mm mortar and one AKM rifle in good condition”.

Lodi added that an Antonov of the Sudanese Air Force “began bombing the area with barrel bombs”, which “which always happens prior to a major attack”.
