SPLM-N preparations for release of 20 Sudan govt. troops

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) has taken “practical steps” to release 20 government troops captured in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile.  

“The SPLM-N committee in Addis Ababa, responsible for the logistics, will arrange the transport of the 20 captives in coordination with the international Red Cross,” Mubarak Ardol, the spokesman for the SPLM-N’s negotiation team told Dabanga.

“They will be transported from the areas controlled by the SPLM-N in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan, to their hometowns.”

Ardol urged the Sudanese government to “agree on the release of all captives and detainees, discuss the issue of the missing troops, stop the bombardments against civilians, and allow relief organisations access to the war-torn regions of South Kordofan, the Blue Nile, and Darfur without conditions, according to the norms of international humanitarian laws”.
