The South Darfur government has sent substantial military reinforcements to Gireida locality in an attempt to control security following incidents in the Hashaba area on Sunday.

The South Darfur government has sent substantial military reinforcements to Gireida locality in an attempt to control security following incidents in the Hashaba area on Sunday.

The South Darfur state government has also announced the formation of an inquiry and investigation committee into the incident, in which six people, including the police Chief of Operations, were killed in an ambush by militiamen in the locality on Sunday afternoon. The attackers also managed to seize two police vehicles.

In a press statement on Thursday, Omar Mohamed Ibrahim, the member of the state legislative council for Gireida constituency called in on the state government “to take immediate decisive action to arrest all the militants and bring them to court”.
