South Darfur camp leader killed on farm

A leader of a camp for the displaced in Nyala locality was killed on Monday evening. Three others were wounded in the shooting.
A group of armed “pro-government” camel herders arrived at Durduma area, 5 kilometres south of El Salam camp, in the evening, according to camp Sheikh Ahmed Mahjoub Tabeldiya. They released their camels and other livestock on the farms of displaced people.
“The farmers confronted them, after which they opened fire on them,” Tabeldiya told Radio Dabanga. Sheikh Mohamed Abdallah Ahmad was killed on the spot.
Maryam Suleiman, who was carrying her seven-month-old baby, sustained injuries during the attack. Safeldin Abdelrahman Abdallah and Adam Abdelrahman Ahmed were also wounded
“Sudanese military forces arrived in the area on Tuesday, but were unable to track down the perpetrators,” Tabeldiya said.

Last week, armed herders also drove their livestock onto the farms in El Salam locality. Vast tracts of cultivated land were damaged and large quantities of crops destroyed.
