Two Sudanese soldiers have been shot dead and six others wounded, including two civilians, after a dispute between two soldiers escalated in Deribat market in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra on Sunday.

Two Sudanese soldiers have been shot dead and six others wounded, including two civilians, after a dispute between two soldiers escalated in Deribat market in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra on Sunday.

Shoppers told Radio Dabanga that the incident started with a dispute between two Sudanese government soldiers over a woman. This turned into a confrontation between two groups of soldiers, and resulted in an armed clash with heavy fire between the groups.

They said the shooting also wounded two shoppers, Ismail Yousif Haroun, and Abdelkarim Abakar Mousa.

One of the shoppers said the shooting created a state of panic and terror among the shoppers and merchants who fled to mountain tops and caves and left their shops unattended in the market.
