SLM-MM claims new victories after Um Dafouk
The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi announced on Wednesday it has taken control of four new areas, a day after it claimed to seize Um Dafouk army base and expel government forces. SLM-MM spokesman Abdullah Mersal told Radio Dabanga the movement took over four army bases at El Dembaloya, Sesaban, Geraidiya and Joaquim in South Darfur as part of the Sudan Revolutionary Front’s plan to topple the Khartoum regime. He stressed that the operations will continue on all fronts in Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile until the regime collapses. Mersal also said they captured 26 Sudanese soldiers including high ranking officers along with a large number of weapons and ammunition in Um Dafouk and the other areas. Since Tuesday hundreds of families are continuing to flee Um Dafouk. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that numbers of civilians fled on foot and some on the backs of camels, horses and donkeys to Gubal in Central African Republic and some northeast to Amarok, Sinatah and Al Masid.
