SLM-MM accused of attacking trade convoys

The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Mini Minnawi (SLM-MM) strongly denies allegations made by the commissioner of Dar el-Salam locality in North Darfur. The commissioner claims that the movement launched an attack on two trade convoys on Monday, 3 December.It was reported that the attack resulted in the death of one woman and the injuring of at least 10 other civilian passengers. In an interview with Radio Dabanga, SLM-MM accused pro-government militias of carrying out the attack on the convoys. Adam Saleh Abker, the movement’s spokesman, condemned the attack and described it as a ‘barbaric and brutal act carried out by pro-government militias for which the National Congress Party should be held responsible’. Furthermore, the spokesman described the accusations of Dar el-Salam’s commissioner as ‘false’ and ‘disgraceful’. The commissioner of Dar el-Salaam, Al Hadi Ahmed Hassan, accuses the SLM-MM of launching an attack on two trade convoys. The commissioner explained to Radio Dabanga that the first convoy was on its way from Dar el-Salaam to El-Fasher, while the second convoy was on its way back to Dar el-Salaam. He stated that the attack took place on Monday night and that the assailants arrived in two Land Cruiser vehicles. The commissioner added that the attack resulted in the death of one passenger and the injuring of ten other passengers. According to the commissioner, the group robbed the belongings of the ‘innocent and defenseless’ passengers and headed west afterwards. SLM-MM’s spokesman denied the allegations and accused the government and its militias of carrying out the attacks.
