SLA-Abdel Wahid accuses government of restricting aid

The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army led by Abdul Wahid Nur accused the government of blocking the activity of aid agencies and preventing access to affected people in remote areas and the camps in Darfur. Ibrahim El Hilu, a leader of the movement, appealed to the United Nations and UNAMID to pressure the government and force it to allow delivery of aid to the needy in the province. He said this in an interview with Radio Dabanga.

He said this in an interview with Radio Dabanga.This follows remarks on Tuesday by the head of the UN peacekeepers in Darfur, Ibrahim Gambari, who said the government and rebels were impeding humanitarian access in parts of Darfur. UNAMID commanders on the previous day had met with representatives of the UN Security Council in El Fasher, at a meeting that “stressed the need for the government of Sudan to lift all restrictions on the use of UNAMID air assets,” according to Agence-France Presse.
