Six women were raped in two separate incidents in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra on Saturday and Sunday.

At 12 noon on Sunday, elements of the Rapid Support Forces driving a Land Cruiser mounted with a ‘Duschka’ machinegun accosted four women as they drew water from the wells at the village of Nimra. The militiamen raped the women alternately.

In the region of Bhaji, Abbala militiamen attacked and raped two women at gunpoint. A relative of the victims told Radio Dabanga that the authorities in East Jebel Marra consistently ignore reports of assaults and rapes by militiamen. He appealed to the UN Security Council and humanitarian and human rights organisations to intervene to protect them.
