Army planes bombed Nyala, capital of South Darfur, yesterday afternoon. Six people were killed and at least eight others were wounded. The Sudanese Air Force is reportedly also using barrel bombs.

People told Radio Dabanga from Nyala that the bombardments targeted the area neighbourhood near the city’s airport, the stadium, and the Malja Market. In addition to other air strikes, they reported “four barrel bombs falling from the sky”.

Nyala came under control of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in end October, following fierce fighting with the army for the major base of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) 16th Infantry Division in the city.

In a statement yesterday on its account on X (formerly Twitter), the RSF accused the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) of “targeting unarmed people in Nyala by dropping barrel bombs meant to kill and displace them”.

The militia described the aerial attacks as “a brutal massacre that led to the death of dozens of citizens and the demolition of their homes .. after the cessation of military operations in the city, and most of the population returned to their homes, and life fully returned after markets, hospitals, some schools, and police stations reopened.”
