Six dead, 12 wounded in Central Darfur attacks

Five people were seriously injured in an attack by pro-government militiamen on Dereig market, west of Zalingei in Central Darfur. Sheikh Matar Younis told Radio Dabanga that a pro-government militia attacked the weekly market of Dereig at about 5pm on Saturday. They fired bullets into the air before beating the people and stealing their money and property. Seikh Younis said the five injured, who are now being treated at Zalingei Royal Hospital, include two women. He added that the police did not intervene to stop the attacks or investigate after the incident, and called for the need to provide protection for unarmed citizens. Kailik In a separate incident in Central Darfur, six people were killed and at least seven others were wounded on Saturday at Kailik area. A witness told Radio Dabanga that seven pro-government militiamen on motorcycles hijacked a commercial lorry with its occupants from the area of Sarf Majin 30 km east Mukjar while it was on its way from Foro Baranga to Omdurman. “A force from the army, police and Abu Tira hunted-down the militants and clashed with them on Saturday at the area of Kailik. Four of militants were killed and others wounded. One of the police force, Mohammad Zakaria and another from Abu Tira nicknamed Abu El Gadah, while seven were injured including an army Lieutenant named Abdallah.
