Shops closed after threats by Abbala militias in Sirba, W. Darfur

Shops in the market of Kendebe camp, Sirba locality in West Darfur have remained closed for the third consecutive day on Sunday, 20 January, out of fear for attacks by Abbala militias from the area of Jebel ‘Amer in North Darfur. A witness told Radio Dabanga that the camp’s market closed its doors on Friday and remained closed on Sunday, following threats from Abbala militias stationed in Wadi Ardeeba, northwest of the camp, to attack and loot the market.The commissioner of Sirba locality was informed about the threats, the witness continued, after which he sent an additional police force to the region on Friday. He added that the police force left the area on the same day, which prompted shop owners to close their doors. Residents of the area appealed to the authorities of West Darfur as well as the commissioner to send ‘capable forces’ to the area to protect citizens and their properties. File photo
