Three camp sheikhs were abducted my militiamen in Saraf Umra, North Darfur, on Saturday.

The sheiks were abducted as a form of retaliation, Abdelrazeg Yousef Suleiman, coordinator of the Saraf Umra camps told Radio Dabanga.

He said that the militiamen had requested a faki (traditional Koran healer) of the Fasi camp for the displaced to treat a female relative, who did not recover but became paralysed.

“The militiamen then seized the faki named Adam and demanded SDG30,000 ($4,930) from him as compensation. They released him after Sheikh El Taher Abdelmajeed of the Dankoj camp offered to be his guarantor. The faki would pay them the amount within two weeks,” he related.

Faki Adam fled immediately after his release, however, a group of eight members of the Border Guards militia stormed Fasi camp in three Land Cruisers mounted with Dushka machineguns. They seized camp sheikh Abakar Jandour, sheikh Adam Ibrahim, and visiting sheikh El Taher Abdelmajeed, and left the camp.”

The camp coordinator called on the UN to protect the displaced.
