Security detains Sudanese Congress Party official

Security officers detained the political secretary of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) Abu Zabad branch in West Kordofan, on Tuesday. The spokesman for the party, Bakri Yousef, reported to Radio Dabanga that Ahmed Abdallah Abdelbari was held by agents of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) inside his house in Abu Zabad town on Tuesday morning. “They did not tell the members of his family the reason for his detention.” Several prominent members of the SCP, including chairman Ibrahim El Sheikh, were detained by the NISS earlier this year for various periods of time, after El Sheikh had publicly denounced the “widespread atrocities and crimes against humanity” committed by paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, under the command of the NISS, in Darfur and Kordofan.
