Security Council ambassadors greeted by anti-ICC protest in Darfur

The delegation of the UN Council while visiting El Fasher was greeted by two days of protests, organized by the ruling party of Sudan, the National Congress Party. A group of women were allowed into the airport yesterday for a noisy protest to coincide with the arrival of the foreigners. A larger group of demonstrators stood at the airport gate and temporarily blocked the Security Council’s convoy, according to reporters who were with the delegation. Again this morning some 200 demonstrators changed “down, down with the ICC [International Criminal Court]” as the ambassadors met the governor in a state government building, Agence France-Presse reported just hours ago.
