The security committee of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, has issued a series of decisions aimed at curbing the current spate of murders and robberies in the locality.

Protests broke out in El Fasher after Abdullah Fadel Rahma (30) was shot dead by gunmen riding motorcycles after prayers on Friday..

The Commissioner of El Fasher locality, El Tijani Abdallah Salih, issued the Committee’s decisions, instructing authorities for them to come into immediate effect.

The decisions included prohibition of the movement of all motorcycles, carrying weapons in civilian clothes, wearing garments that cover the face, and the movement of vehicles without proper licence plates within El Fasher.

The decisions were announced shortly after North Darfur’s Governor Abdel Wahid Youssef declared a state of maximum readiness among the regular security forces to control lawlessness the capital.
