Security agents threaten delegates ahead of meeting with Darfur mediators

Radio Dabanga has learnt that security agencies in El Geneina met yesterday morning with representatives of displaced persons and civil society who had been selected to consult with Djibril Bassole and Al Mahmoud, the mediators of the Darfur conflict. The security agents warned the delegates not to raise the demands of uniting the Darfur states into one province and compensating victims of the conflict individually.

Radio Dabanga has learnt that security agencies in El Geneina met yesterday morning with representatives of displaced persons and civil society who had been selected to consult with Djibril Bassole and Al Mahmoud, the mediators of the Darfur conflict. The security agents warned the delegates not to raise the demands of uniting the Darfur states into one province and compensating victims of the conflict individually.The delegates were also threatened not to advocate that Darfur be given a position of vice president. Radio Dabanga learnt that the threats from the security services led to a split between the participants from El Geneina and those from other areas. Representatives to the meeting feared for their safety.
