A man was shot dead, and three others were injured in an attack by members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Gireida on Saturday.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a relative of the victims reported that three RSF militiamen attempted to snatch the mobile telephone from Ahmed Abdelkareem Hamed Mohamed, when he was standing in front of his family home in Gireida on Saturday evening.

“Mohamed resisted, took his knife from his pocket, and stabbed one of them. They shot him dead in response. His parents and a visiting relative who ran to the door to see what was happening, were shot too, and sustained bullet wounds.”

He said that people of the neighbourhood captured the stabbed militiaman, and took him to the police.

“The RSF commander of the area and the executive director of Gireida locality passed by to offer their condolences. They handed the family the amount of SDG2,000 ($335) and sacks of sugar as karaama (alms-giving) to share in the funeral expenses,” he added.
