Robbery of lorries traveling in West Darfur

A number of citizens were robbed and severely beaten on Thursday on the Beida – Arara road in West Darfur. Witnesses said that an armed group on camels intercepted travelers on the road by opening fire on two lorries. The witnesses related to Radio Dabanga that the gunmen looted the money and property of the travelers as well as commercial materials. They said the gunmen hit some of the passengers, severely beating them, including one of the truck drivers who was hurt in his legs so badly that he could not drive after the incident.The witnesses, who were both passengers who arrived safely to Arara, said the gunmen had asked them not to come again via this route. Travel along the route El Geneina – Masteri – Kango Haraz – Beida – Arara is risky because of the presence of various armed groups in the region.
