Residents of Gereida area in Darfur say 800 killed since 2003

The people of the region of Gereida in South Darfur have tallied up figures showing the extent of crimes committed in the region since 2003. The figures show that the various confrontations have left 800 people killed in nine battles, most prominently at Ardib, Matbaeh, Haraza and Ambloleh, in addition to 900 injured, along with 1000 women widowed and 4800 children orphaned.

The people of the region of Gereida in South Darfur have tallied up figures showing the extent of crimes committed in the region since 2003. The figures show that the various confrontations have left 800 people killed in nine battles, most prominently at Ardib, Matbaeh, Haraza and Ambloleh, in addition to 900 injured, along with 1000 women widowed and 4800 children orphaned. The people of the area also claim that 320 villages and 33 markets were burnt. A large number of cattle, estimated at 70 thousand, were stolen in addition to 12 vehicles. At the same time 163 thousand people were forced to flee their homes to take shelter in three camps, namely Gereida, Salaam and El Naga. Citizens called for bringing to justice those responsible for such crimes.
