Residents of 7 villages affected by Geneina airport construction demand compensation

The population of seven villages affected by the construction of the new airport in El Geneina, West Darfur, have asked the state government to implement their demands and compensate them for their land, which was taken by the government to build the airport. The demands include the construction of model villages, the establishment of essential services including education and health services, as well as sport and religious facilities. The omda (tribal leader) of the affected villages urged able-bodied residents to go find work at the airport. He also told Radio Dabanga that the commission on the affected villages had delivered a copy of their demands to the President of the Republic during his visit to El Geneina last March. But as of this time the government has not responded to their demands, he said.
