‘Release political detainees in Sudan immediately’: activists

The political detainees in Sudan should be immediately released or brought to a fair trial. In a press conference on Sunday, the chairman of the Sudanese Committee of Solidarity with the Victims of the September Demonstrations, Siddig Yousef, strongly condemned the deterioration of the human rights situation in Sudan, and demanded the immediate release of the detainees. He said that 55 people are currently being detained by security in Abu Jubaiha, South Kordofan. Hawa Rahama, one of the Darfuri students detained during the violent eviction of women students from El Zahra boarding house in Khartoum on 5 October is still held in the security department in the Women Prison in Omdurman. Lawyer El Hajj Gadem was detained on 23 June, and not released or brought to justice until date, just as student activist Abdelsalam Kasha, held on 6 October. The most recent violation of the law, Yousef mentioned, was the detention by security officers of El Nur Ahmed El Nur, a Sudanese journalist working for the London-based Arabic newspaper El Hayat on 23 October. In a press conference on Sunday, the chairman of the Sudanese Committee of Solidarity with the Victims of the September Demonstrations, Siddig Yousef, strongly condemned the deterioration of the human rights situation in Sudan, and demanded the immediate release of the detainees.

He said that 55 people are currently being detained by security in Abu Jubaiha, South Kordofan.
