Reconciliation efforts after tribal clash

A conference held in El Daein on Wednesday was aimed at reconciling differences between The Rezeigat and Messeriya tribe. Clashes between the two tribes on Tuesday left 58 dead and 24 injured according to Ahmed Harun, the governor of South Kordofan.

A conference held in El Daein on Wednesday was aimed at reconciling differences between The Rezeigat and Messeriya tribe. Clashes between the two tribes on Tuesday left 58 dead and 24 injured according to Ahmed Harun, the governor of South Kordofan. He told Radio Dabanga that 35 Messeriya tribe members died and 23 Rezeigat tribe members.

A conflict between the two tribes erupted in the border town of Abu Bashar (Abu Jabra) between South Kordofan and East Darfur on Tuesday. Both sides made conflicting claims concerning the cause of the conflict.

The El Daein conferenced called for an immediate ceasefire and a stop to hostilities between the two tribes. It also called for the prosecution of perpetrators and the demarcation of the border between East Darfur and South Kordofan. In addition it advised in favor of the deployment of a joint peace keeping force composed of military, police and security forces.
