Rains cause damage, deepen misery in South Darfur

Torrential rains that fell in South Darfur on Sunday and Tuesday have caused losses and severe damage to the displaced of El Salam camp in Nyala. Camp Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya told Radio Dabanga that about 50,000 of the displaced, most of them new arrivals, were affected by the torrential rains. “They are now living in difficult humanitarian and health situations as a result of destruction of their homes, as well as the little food and the property in their possession.” He confirmed that the affected have been living in the open without shelter or food surrounded by pools of water on every side. Tabaldiya added that they have informed humanitarian organisations and the Humanitarian Aid Commission of the incident, but they have not moved so far to provide assistance to the victims.
