Rain damages houses in Zalingei camps, Central Darfur

Heavy rain damaged several houses in the Zalingei camps for displaced persons in Central Darfur on Monday. The camp coordinator told Radio Dabanga that the exact damage is still being assessed, but this setback has left even more displaced persons without shelter. “We have formed a committee to assess the damage, but with thousands of displaced people in the Zalingei camps without shelter or health care, we are heading for a catastrophe,” the coordinator said. “We really need relief organisation and NGOs to make it a priority for the displaced in Central Darfur to be provided with tarpaulins as well as medicines and basic health care,” he concluded.
