Protest against Zakat Chamber closure in eastern Sudan

Dozens of people protested in front of the Zakat Chamber office in El Gedaref, eastern Sudan, on Thursday.
The office was closed early last week, after the about 30 staff members of the Zakat [Islamic alms) Chamber were transferred to Kordofan and Darfur.

The office was closed early last week, after the about 30 staff members of the Zakat [Islamic alms) Chamber were transferred to Kordofan and Darfur.

Mohamed Abdelfadeel El Sunni, El Gedaref state Minister of Social Welfare, told reporters that the Zakat Chamber personnel were relocated by orders from the central Sudanese government. The Ministry and the board of trustees were not consulted.
