Prison sentence for RNM members in Khartoum

Four convicted leading members of the Reform Now Party refused to pay a monthly fine to court and were sentenced to spending one month in prison instead.

A court in Khartoum sentenced four leading members of the Reform Now Party to paying a fine of SDG500 ($81.30) a month. The convicted chose to not pay the amount and have to spend one month in prison.

The security forces arrested Khaled Nouri, head of the RNM in Khartoum State and his deputy, Ja'far El Sadiq, Sami Abdelwahab, member of the political office, and Naji Iman, on 3 September, when they addressed a mass anti-government rally in the centre of Khartoum.

A statement issued by the opposition party said that the four have refused to pay the fines and decided to subject to the punishment and spend one month in prison.

On 3 September, the four were carrying banners with slogans aimed against the government, and harshly criticised the government's policies before security members in civilian clothes intervened and took them away.
