On Wednesday, angry residents of El Mujlad in West Kordofan took to the streets in protest against the drinking water shortage and electricity outages. The chronic fuel shortages in the state mean that water pumps and electricity generators fall silent for lack of diesel.

Community leaders and handed over a memorandum to the Commissioner of the Locality demanding the provision of both services.

A number of protesters from El Mujlad told Radio Dabanga that the price of a barrel of water ranges from SDG50 ($1.77*)to SDG80 ($2.85), while the electricity service has been reduced to two and a half hours a day.
