Power cuts and water shortages across El Fasher

Repeated power cuts have left the residents of El Fasher plunged into darkness with no electricity for over a week. Residents strongly criticised authorities for neglecting to supply continuous electricity to the area, whilst ensuring the state governor and his ministers maintain uninterrupted access to electricity, wholly unaffected by the cuts. They stressed their rights to access power particularly as they have to pay electricity bills in advance each month.Residents also said there are serious water shortages throughout neighbourhoods in El Fasher despite repeated promises from North Darfur authorities over the past year to resolve problems with access to clean water. They said they now rely mainly on buying barrels of salty, unclean water for eight Sudanese pounds each.
